PURPOSE
The Carrier Sales Representative is responsible for helping develop and grow a portfolio of top accounts in the Company’s carrier network through innovative prospecting and sales strategies. The Carrier Sales Representative must have strong negotiation skills, ensuring all freight is covered in a cost-effective, time-efficient manner, with a focus on sustaining reliable, first-class service to the Company’s carrier network.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement successful strategies and techniques for growing and developing carrier portfolios through prospecting and sales strategies.
- Deepen relationships within core carrier portfolios across all levels to further drive business growth.
- Negotiate competitive rates with carriers (exercising discretion and judgment with respect to same within reasonable parameters and/or guidelines) to maximize profits and develop long-term solutions through a deep understanding of the market.
- Stay abreast of developments in the transportation industry and adapt strategy to changing conditions; identify external threats and opportunities.
- Understand and identify negative trends in carrier communication occurring during both regular business hours and after hours, assessing opportunities for improved communication with the Company’s carrier partners.
- Ensure all shipments are tracked according to Company policy and standards.
- Assess and resolve routine customer questions and issues and escalated customer challenges that may arise concerning the successful execution of the load from tendering, delivering, receivables, and payment to carriers.
- Perform job duties in compliance with Company policies and procedures and applicable local, state, and national standards and regulations.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- High School diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
